Tuesday's Ebay Selling Tip: Make Your Auctions Pretty

Hi!  If you're somewhat new to Yard Sale Mommy, every Tuesday I try to give a little tip to help you be successful when selling on ebay.  Here are some you might have missed:

6.  Set the right starting price
7.  Ship international packages

On to today's tip!  Someone once asked me how I make my auctions "pretty."  The answer is simple.  I use a listing service called Auctiva (pictured above).  They are not paying me to tell you the following information, but they should!!

Why Auctiva?
For years I simply used ebay to list.  It was easy enough.  But I found myself listing the same things over and over again, and while ebay did not save all of my past listings, Auctiva did (ebay may save all of your listings now, I don't know...they didn't use to and I'm happy with Auctiva so I have never bothered to check!).  If I have something to list, and I found a similar item 5 years ago, I can search through every listing I ever made through Auctiva, find it, change the picture and a bit of the description, and I'm done.  Here are a few reasons why I use auctiva:

  • they save all my  listings, which is great because I tend to list the same or similar things over and over again
  • I can choose a "pretty" border around my listing, which makes my listings look more interesting and maybe a bit more "professional"
  • I get more pictures through Auctiva than ebay for free, including free supersized pictures (this is really helpful for people to see condition/details of what I am selling)
  • Auctiva provides a scrolling display of all your items for sale at the top of your listing, driving more traffic to my other items and hopefully getting them sold at a higher price.
  • It's truly easy to use and I can get a listing done in less than ten minutes.

Note the scrolling bar at the top displaying this seller's other items, and the pretty background for the listing.  All possible through auctiva.

How much does it cost?
When I first started using Auctiva, it was free.  And when they started charging, I didn't want to give up my years and years of listings so I paid!  I have the unlimited listings plan at $9.95 per month.  You can get a basic plan, 15 listings for $2.95 per month.  You can get a 30 day free trial so you might want to check it out!

  5. Love sites like Auctiva that make it easy to relist similar items!! I really like The Seller Sourcebook too. You can pay monthly ($8) or buy a longer subscription for a discount. I haven't used it recently, but in the past I found it really easy to use.

  7. So Inkfrog went down the other day and I was forced to list on eBay. What a pain in the rear. Truly I had forgotten. I think they do save some of the info but its spotty and tedious and ohhh yes you do love Auctiva! i'm getting sick of Inkfrog, maybe I should look into Auctiva, hmmmmmm.

  9. Here's a tip that might help some people. I am too cheap for Auctiva and to pay for multiple photos. But I do want big photos in my listings. Here's what I do:
1)upload my ebay photos to photobucket.com.
2)start to list like normal on ebay
3)if I want to add more photos to my description box I go back to photobucket
4)right click and copy the picture I want in ebay
    5)paste into description box
    6)repeat!
I've added multiple large photos to my listings for free

  10. If I want to use Auctiva a lot can I pay the $9.95 a month for just September through December then change to the $2.95 a month until the next September?

  11. I read this thinking "I don't think I'd ever use that". Then Baby took a nap and I was bored (what laundry?) so I looked at it and I LOVE it. It's awesome. I'm hooked.

  12. I personally have used seller sourcebook. They have tons of templates and if you sell name brand kids clothes you will find many templates that match gymboree lines, gap lines, janie and jack, and more. I have used it for over 5 years now and love it.

  14. Auctiva is what we used a few years ago when we sold toys during Christmas time. It was so easy to use. I didn't know they were charging now. I guess it really caught on.

  17. In spite of paying conventional eBay charges, they are much lower than typical, in the event that you have an eBay store. ebay
