I'm Alive!

I am soooo sorry I have been absent.  I have lots of little excuses, all of which are valid but add up to an almost two week absence!  It started getting my family ready for a mini vacation, my husband and I to the beach and the kids off to my cousin's house...then the vacation happened, then it was recouperating from the craziness of being away, then it was feeling really tired and choosing to go to bed early which felt oh so good, and now we are back to getting my family ready to go on another mini vacation!  We leave tomorrow, I am so not ready, but wanted to say a quick hello before I say another quick goodbye.

Our beach getaway was to Wilmington, NC, where we discovered that we love chicken nachos (can you believe in 12 years of marriage we had never had those before?) and being away from the kids was really quite nice.  I have been accused on this blog (through comments I immediately deleted) that I am a bad mom for leaving my kids on Saturday mornings.  Well, if leaving my kids for time away with my husband is wrong, I don't want to be right!  We had a view of the river from our hotel room as well as a view of the USS North Carolina battleship.  It was perfect.  I tried to take lots of pictures I wanted to share with you, but after taking a ton on my phone and deleting them unintentionally, I was too upset to blog about it!

I will be unplugged again for this mini vacation just like I was during my last, so you won't be hearing from me until next week!

I hope you have been yard saleing!  I have not been...boo hoo hoo.  We have been traveling and then of course there was that whole Hurricane Irene thing that landed here on Saturday morning. I can't wait for the fall yard sale season to begin...I feel like it's about time!

Thank you so much for all of the kind emails (and prayers!).  I am sorry I could not respond...it seemed like every time I wanted to come and write the baby would cry or the girls would need me or I would simply not be home.  I lost touch with how to post from my phone unfortunately, and have just been off our normal routine.  It has been nice being unplugged for a while, though, I must admit.  Even tonight as I write this I am stealing a few minutes from my husband who ended up spending a few hours in the emergency room tonight with a friend and her son.  Long story, but needless to say it seems like there is never enough time to sit still these days even for 30 minutes.

I hope you have a relaxed weekend where you are, and with any luck you'll find a sale or two worth checking out.  I'll see you again next week!

  5. I'm so relieved! I was seriously starting to wonder if something had happened to you and your family. Enjoy your time "unplugged" and I'll be looking forward to having you back online :). You're inspiring to me and I think I've about got my confidence up to give Ebay a shot!

  7. It's so good to hear that everything is ok, and even better that you have been having fun! We all need some "unplugged" time now and then. Good for you! I'm a little surprised that you got those comments about being away from your kids on Saturday mornings. Seriously? Who are these moms who NEVER leave their kids, even for a few hours? I am a firm believer that time away from my kids makes me a BETTER mommy. We all need time to recharge! :)

  9. I think that is so awesome you got time away with your hubby. My husband and I try to do this at least once a year. I have a nursing baby so this year is out but we are looking foward to next years trip. We love our children, but enjoy spending some time with one another too. : )

BTW since you've been gone I've been able to sell some things for a nice profit on ebay. Thank you so much. I look forward to your advice and future posts. Have another great week off. : )

  10. I am so happy you weren't swept away with the Irene :) (not even sure how close you are to it, haha).

You are not a bad mom - people who say that to bloggers they don't know are just plain losers.

Since I am going through withdraws of seeing everyone's link ups, I just posted up a linky party on The Thrifty Wife -

  11. Oh thank the Lord! I WAS really worried. Glad you're getting some R&R.

Those people that are giving you a hard time about leaving your kids behind for some "you" time need to get a life. Seriously, some people have nothing better to do than to spread nastiness. Besides, I think the greatest gift you can give your kids (aside from showing them Jesus) is your commitment to your relationship with your spouse. Kids want/need to see that.
    Keep it up, girl!

  12. Glad to see everything is alright! Hope to see another post from you soon! I've been following a lot of your principles for selling on eBay, and with my 'happy' prices I've made some profit!

  13. So happy you and yours are alright! I hope you had/have a great time on your vacations. I agree with the rest of the comments in saying that it is SUPER important to spend time with your spouse outside of your littles.

AND seriously once a week for a few hours during a time when most littles are waking up and getting around for the day (you're usually back by 9 right?)....people need to get a life before they make judgments. Even if you weren't home until 12 a momma deserves a few hours away every week (especially SAHM!). They would probably think that I'm the worst momma in the world because I drag my kids out every Thurs. and Fri. morning in the summer to garage sales, and leave them in the car watching a movie for the most part...gasp (unless I can't park right near the house, block sale, etc).

Anyway, looking forward to having you back. And I must thank you. Because of this blog and my natural LOVE for garage sales I'm going on my 3rd week of Ebay selling and have already netted +250! My dd can now take dance classes and we can/will start saving up for our bathroom remodel and next years school curriculum. I must say it feels so great to be able to contribute some income.

  14. Welcome back Yard Sale Mommy! Hope you enjoyed your vacation! Ignore those "haters"...that's about the dumbest opinion I heard in a long time. Although their crazy "No Moms" at yard sales would actually help me. Hmmm, wait a second (thinking evil thoughts)..less competition! Yes, yes, all moms should stay home! (Just kidding) Please, as Lauren said above some folks need to get a life!

Anyhows, welcome back! Looking forward to some great tips!

  17. So glad you are safe and sound! I agree with everyone--it is imperative to spend some time away from your little people!! I firmly believe it makes a better Mom, and hey, they need quality time with Dad too, right?

Dude, thanks for the laugh! :)

  18. Nice to hear all is well. I kinda figured it was end of the summer vacation and craziness.

Enjoy your time with your family.

  19. Glad to hear from you! And I have to agree with everyone else about the leaving your kids at home on Saturday mornings! You get to do something you enjoy (and earn a little $$ doing it) and your kids get time with Dad - all good things!!

  20. Oh my. If you're a bad mom for leaving your kids for a few hours on a Saturday to garage sale...then I must be terrible because I leave them everyday to go to work! I'm glad you're back and that you enjoyed your hubby time.
