Why Toys? A Top Ten List of Reasons Why I Sell Toys on EBay

Why do I sell toys on ebay?  Here's my top ten.
  1. It's just where I'm at.  Our stage of life.  I have kids.  Kids have toys.
  2. I like to play Santa.
  3. My kids are entertained with new toys (but only for a week or two at most!).
  4. My kids have learned that things are temporary, and you can't take them with you.
  5. I always thought it would be cool to be a personal shopper.
  6. Parents will always spend money on their kids, especially before themselves, even in a down economy.
  7. There's always a holiday for presents around the corner.
  8. I can involve my kids in my "work" process:  they help me shop for the toys, clean them, set them up for the picture, show me how they work, and box them up for shipping.
  9. I like to think of little kids smiling when my box arrives in the mail!
  10. My girls have learned that anyone can make money...and that anyone can turn 50 cents into 5, 10, 20, or even 100 dollars.

Your turn!  What kinds of posts are interested in seeing?  What do you want to know more about?  What is the question you need answered right now?

  1. I would love to see a post on clothes and books. We have tons of books just floating around our house, and sometimes when I put them on eBay I'll think they will do well then they end up flopping. :(

It's great to see your girls are learning about business. That's pretty awesome!

    Love always,

  2. Oh, my..you sound just like me when it comes to selling stuff. Whenever I bring something home, they ask me if I'm going to sell it. I clean it up and let them play with it for a few days and then bye bye it goes. I also love Ebay parents. You are so right, they are willing to spend crazy money on their kids. Wish I was that nice of a mommy!

  3. I just found your blog and LOVE it. I started selling on ebay about 8 months ago but I've only sold women's name brand clothing and I ship them all via flat rate envelope. After reading your blog I think I may try and venture in toys. :) I am still a little puzzles on shipping these items though. How do you know how much to charge for shipping? A post specifically on shipping/boxing these these items would be helpful. Great blog!!

  5. Hi! I have been ebaying for a year now and thanks to your blog about the scale finally got one! No more trekking to the post with two kiddos in tow! Praise the Lord!!! I was hoping maybe you could do a post regarding shipping from home because I am a little confused with the process. My main questions are where you print shipping labels from (ebay or the post office) and what type of shipping you use (I use 1st class a lot but am not seeing that as an option that can be picked up) I love the way you explain things too! So helpful. You truly are a Godsend to our family. Thanks so much!!!

  6. Like a couple of others have said I would love to see a post or two about shipping. Do you charge a flat rate or figure up the exact shipping? How do you ship from home?

Thanks a lot for all the time you spend on this blog!

  7. I'd like to see a post on things you should hold on to to sell at Christmas time (e.g. your Weebles post from last week). My house is ridiculously small, but even if I made one bin for "Christmas ebay", I know in the long run, it could be worth it. Thanks in advance.

  8. Looks like I will be doing another post on shipping soon! I do have one post about getting shipping supplies ready. You can type it into my search box and hopefully find it, or find it under ebay selling tips.

And Carrie, I will address Christmas soon too!

  9. I so enjoy reading your blog!!! One question I have is do yard sales in your area normally start on Saturday? I live in Indiana and most sales start on thursday or friday and I am always worried if I don't go the first day, all the "good" stuff would be gone! So I drag my 3 sweeties with me and we tackle yard sales!

  10. I would like to know how you set up an ebay account. Yours looks so nice and professional.
I have no idea how to do ebay, but, I lost my job and I have a lot of old toys and kids clothes around that I could possible turn into $$. Love reading your blog!

  11. Yes, I am feeling inspired to try this myself, but I guess I need a smart phone!

  12. One more thing: how about using templates? I've been ebaying in earnest for the past year, but haven't begun to use templates to make my auctions look fancier. I noticed that you do; do you honestly think it makes a difference, and how did you learn to use them?

  13. Okay, my question is: where do you store your stuff in the meantime?? I have a little collection I need to list, and not a lot of extra storage space in my house?? At this point, I have a book case in my son's nursery that I store everything in. Little fingers are beginning to get into it though....so I'm at a loss. I live in FL so it gets too hot to be able to store anything outside in the summer! Thanks in advance!

  14. I enjoyed your post about planning your yard sale trips so much. Now I'd like to know how you operate once you get there - negotiating, scouting out the good stuff, etc.

  15. I have wanted to start selling on ebay for quite some time but didn't know where to begin. I just recently found your blog and it's given me the "push" to give it a try. I would love more posts on the basic how to get started selling on ebay. I would love to see the whole process from putting it up for sale, shipping it, getting paid and total profit after any ebay fees. Thanks for all your great tips. I'm hoping to put up my first item for sale on ebay real soon! :)

  16. I'd love to see a post with a list of specific things to look for that are good for flipping for profit. I don't have kids (not yet anyways!) and so I really only would want to buy toys that I could resell. That being said, I've found your website really helpful in general, so thank you for all the great info along the way. :)

  17. Nicole--I am super impressed you take your 3 kids with you to the sales! It is worth it. If it starts on Thursday, you need to be there on Thursday.

Judy--On the right, there are two categories that will be helpful to you--"What to Sell" and "Saturday's Spoils". The What to sell gives you specifics and the Saturday's Spoils help you to see what I buy. I give new tips each Wednesday for specifics, too. Thanks for reading!

Amber--Look through my Ebay selling tips to get you started for now. I will see if I can put together a tutorial or something in the future! Thanks!

Katie--I wish I was a better negotiator! I will share some tips soon!
