Sunday Best for Less: Sunday School Social (Yard Sale Dress Find)

If you live in the South, you know that people here like to dress fancy.  Especially for church.  Or, at least here in Raleigh at my church.  There is no casual church day in my little neck of the woods.  I'm talking heels and hairbows and pearls and perfume.

Last Sunday in my Sunday School class we had a little social to send off some missionaries and friends who were moving away.  I knew I couldn't get away with a sneak in-and-out of the back row outfit...I needed something special.

God is good.  On Saturday morning, while hitting the yard sales, I found a rack of $3 dresses (cheaper than the GW boutique).  While thumbing through, This sweet wrap dress caught my eye.  Sold.  Was it my size?  Who made it?  No clue.  Every single dress on the rack had the tags cut out for some reason, but for $3, it was worth the risk.

I thought it was super cute and super fun.  I looked at the yard sale "hostess" and she looked like she could be my size, so I paid my three dollars and was on my way.

The dress was very well made, and I loved the side tie bow and the v neckline.  The print was adorable in an aqua blue and navy pattern.

The ruffles at the neckline and the covered button at the sleeves gave it my required fancy factor.

Perfect for a summer party or sunday school social.  Or lunch with a former student at Bojangles, which is where I happen to be headed in an hour.

I'm sorry, did the Bojangles thing ruin it for you?  Did I mention southerners love to dress fancy for church AND eat Bojangles?  Well now you know.

I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy and her library adventures!

  9. Adorable dress. Great find for $3.00!

I'm originally from your area and you sure aren't lying about the Sunday fanciness and Bojangles! They rank right up there with sweet tea and referring to people you don't know as "honey".

  10. Okay, I just have to say that dressing up for Bojangles must be a NORTH Carolina thing, because when I lived in SOUTH Carolina, I didn't see many people dressed up eating there! :) Certainly made me chuckle! Very good deal on the dress and it does look good on you!

  11. Thanks everyone! Our Bojangles is pretty funny. During lunch because ours is near several medical offices, it is full of well-dressed men...kind of ironic I guess. I have an unhealthy obsession with the place. I can't explain it. I will say that sometimes I am the only girl in the place!! If you have never eaten at Bojangles, you are definitely missing out!

  17. LOVING the dress!!! Okay, so I have to ask... do all of your friends know you yardsale? Or do you not mention where you got something/how much you paid for it when they compliment you? Do you feel like that cheapens your image if you tell them "I got this dress for $3!". I totally admire what you do, but I feel like certain people (not that I'm close to) think its tacky that I yardsale and buy my "brand name stuff" used. How do you deal with that? I'm a pretty transparent person, so I dont like hiding something I love to do (i.e. yardsale). And I certainly dont think that saving money is tacky - just trying to figure out if I'm too forthcoming with my steals and deals.

  18. Lauren,
That's a great question. I guess you would have to ask my friends! All of my good friends know I yard sale...in fact I run into friends yard saleing all the time. My CLOSE friends know what I do...and truth be told I have no idea what they think of it. I don't give up too much info with people I don't know, just because I'm never sure how they will react. People in my area, though "fancy", are also pretty down-to-earth, so I hope they wouldn't think I was weird. I think you should be proud that you can look great on a budget, but don't feel like you have to give away all your secrets!
