Saturday's Yard Sale Spoils: Two weeks worth and a CHANCE TO LINK UP!!

I'm realizing I forgot to share last week's yard sale finds...although there isn't much to report.  I went to a handful of yard sales, but only one made the morning worthwhile, which is where I bought all this.  The bumbo seat and tray I scored for only $2 (always ask the "man" at the yard sale how much things cost--boy, was the wife hot when she asked him how much I paid for the seat!  Note--pricing your items prior to hosting the sale is always a good idea!).  These bumbo seats are so easy to ship and will bring a nice profit.  At the same yard sale, the clothes were only 50 cents, so I picked up a few things (including the darling Hanna Andersson outfit) that Charlotte will wear one day and then I will consign or ebay.

Yesterday, I did slightly better, but as I have said before, this is a slow time for yard sales (so I am thankful to the Lord for anything I find).  It was fun going out with my sister in law, too.  Here's what we found:

It's kind of a random selection of things!

My sister in law homeschools her three children and she bought all of these great educational books for $0.25 each!  It actually turned out to be less than that because the woman selling made it an even $5.  Yard sales are a great place to get educational and homeschool materials.

I have to speak for a minute about the crutches.  My daughters have watched Heidi one too many times I suppose, but they love to be injured.  Hospital is on our list of favorite things to play.  Last week we went to a local kid's museum where there is an ambulance set up and a pair of crutches and the girls waited for a half an hour until it was their turn, and then I had to fight them to give them up so other kids could play!  When I saw these three child-size crutches for $5, it was a no brainer.  I also found some vintage care bear figurines and vintage my little ponies, all from the 80's.  I paid three dollars total for everything above, 25 cent per piece.  The vintage 80's toys sell fairly well on ebay, and the more you have the better.  You might also notice Sophie the Giraffe in the picture above.  She needs a cleaning but she is so cute.  I knew her retail price is around $17 not including shipping, so at 50 cents I thought I could either sell her, consign her, give her to Charlotte to play or use her as a prop in pictures.

I bought this Kelty Kids Country Backpack to resell on ebay.  I literally had $22 dollars left, and offered it to the seller, even though the sticker said $30.  She took it.  I should be able to sell it for at least $50 but probably more.

The beyblades stadium and blades I paid $5 for.  Maybe this is too much but I can put it with the other beyblade things I bought at the consignment sale and sweeten my lot.  The pretty diaper bag was in the free bin...couldn't believe it!  It will be sold at a consignment sale.  Also for free is the little McDonalds happy meal Hansel and Gretel.  These are always in the free bin but some are collectable, so they can be sold on ebay or you could group them together and sell them at a consignment sale.

The  Fisher Price Super Star toy was a good deal at $6.  It still has the microphone and it was very clean and well cared for.  The paint your own tshirt craft (new) will be a nice stocking stuffer type present for my horse lover and it was only $1.

My sister in law also scored three boogey boards for $5 total, as well as a Taboo game she'll play with her kids.  I also bought a big bag of lighted Christmas garland for only $2 that I am excited about.

Overall, it was a good, fun morning!  What did you find?  What are you excited about?

Here's a chance to link up your recent yard sale finds!  This is my first time offering this, so I hope I'm doing it right!
Here are the rules for linking up:
1.  Your link must bring people directly to a blogpost about your yard sale finds, not to your blog "in general".
2.  Your link (or should I say yard sale finds) must be family friendly and appropriate!!
3.  You must include a link back to www.yardsalemommy.com somewhere on the blogpost you are linking up.  A simple "I'm linking up with Yard Sale Mommy" with a live link would be great so we can grow this linky party!

Hope you enjoy seeing the yard sale spoils of others...share yours here!  (PS--Don't forget to enter the latest giveaway!)  And I'm linking up with her library adventures and My Life on a Taffy Pull!

  1. Nice finds! Check your Kelty to make sure it wasn't recalled. If the child's buckles are Yellow, then you are fine. If they are not, you'll want to call and make sure it wasn't a part of the recall.

  2. LOL!!! I can't believe the man sold you a Bumbo with a tray for $2.00! I bet his wife was not happy about that! Great deal!

  4. So...I ended up doing okay, but I was wondering when you're doing the Sweet Street post? I got four or five of the buildings plus some accessories, plus a comparable size McDonalds playset that the woman told me was something all the girls used to covet at her house. I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE about any of this stuff, but picked it up because you said you were going to devote an entire post to it... :)

I also got a really varied assortment of Disney dress-up shoes, some new with tags, and a CRAZY set of Loving Family people - all races/ages and some original/older style. And an Imaginext Bat Cave, but my little guy is kind of enjoying that...

Thanks so much again for your inspiration!

  5. Carrie--you had a great weekend! Those all sound awesome. I will do the sweet streets post on Wednesday. I have some sweet streets to sell myself and need to figure out how I want to list it. SO GLAD you found good stuff...would love to see a pic of that McDonald's playset since I don't know what it is.

  6. Just wanted to say I just recently found this blog and love it! I'm an avid yard saler also but don't re-sell mostly due to being a family of four living in a barely 800 sq foot house with 1 closet. This weekend I scored big on clothes for my 4 yr old which is rare. I found 4 pairs of new childrens place jeans, 2 old navy fleece pull overs, and 3 osh-kosh long sleeve shirts for $5! Thanks for this blog!

  7. @ Jen - see if this takes you to a completed ebay listing of the McDonald's Playset:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370528133602&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I got it for $2, but it has missing/different accessories, so we'll see...

@ Abageal - that's AWESOME about the Children's Place jeans alone! My little guy lives in those jeans, as they seem to be the only ones that truly fit him, and they are expensive new - GREAT find!

  8. @ Abageal (again) - BTW, we live in a just under 800 sq foot house with three kids and one closet, so I feel your pain; my husband is about to shoot me with those Sweet Streets houses and the Bat Cave...

  9. I have just started following your blog & I love it! My question for you is what about taxes? Do you have to report the income from Ebay on your taxes & how much does that cut into your profits? Thanks!

  10. Jen - I am going to start a yard sale blog, just so I can link up. Because I am that much of a yard sale addict! :-) Love seeing everyone else's treasures.

  11. @ Anonymous - I've been wondering that too, re: taxes. I have (very sporadically, since selling off my grad school books) sold books on half.com. I remember at the beginning of this year getting an e-mail telling me that I would get some kind of tax income form from them if I sold over x dollars worth of items (I think it was a few thousand?) I deleted the e-mail without a second thought, though, thinking there was no way it would ever apply to me. Now I wish I would have kept the e-mail.

  12. Awesome finds! I found a lego pink box (with almost all the pieces) for $2, a bun of duplos for $7, polly pocket items, barney plush/books/music, books, etc. It was a lot of fun! My friend and I are now doing it together and we are having a blast. Thanks for sharing, I love to see what you get!

  13. I have sold the poseable Care Bear elephant for @ $18, so they definitely sell good! If the seller in your link would have spelled poseable correctly, they may have made even more money:) Great job on all your finds, and now I am on the lookout for a pair of crutches for my son!

I found 2 imaginext dinosaurs at a Consignment sale that I went to for 1 buck each!! Woo hoo, they light up and make noise and move their heads!! I also got a pair of twinkle toes for my daughter for 1.50. Super excited about them!! I am holding the dinosaurs til Christmas to list. I also scored 2 smocked dresses for my sweet girl, and 2 to sell. Those ebay mommies love the smocked!! Bishop style is best!! Anavini, Orient Expressed, and Rosalaina are just 3 brands to look for!

  16. I love that diaper bag! Yard sales were slow this weekend. I picked up a couple small things. We went to a book sale put on by the friends of the local library, and got 2 grocery bags full of books!

  17. I had a great yard sale weekend--I picked up lots of nice name brand kids clothing to keep for my daughter or to resell at the upcoming consignment sales and at a high end consignment store in my area. I also bought a leapster and game I'm hoping to sell on Craigslist soon. (I haven't figured out Ebay yet). Oh, and my best find was two large bottles of Barefoot wine for only $2 each!

  18. Good job everyone! I'm enjoying looking at your pictures on the linky. As far as taxes go, check with your accountant--under a certain amount does not need to be reported.

Carrie,I have never seen that McDonald's playset before--it is very cool! Looks like it sells well so I would go for it! McDonald's toys often do sell very well (not the happy meal toys, the toys that portray something about McDonald's.

Proud of everyone for getting out there and scoring some deals to keep or sell!

  19. Thanks for doing the link up, it's going to be fun reading what everyone got.

  20. What a great score on the bumbo. I usually sale mine local on CL. I buy them at the GW and usually pay a buck or 2 for them. Without a tray I do $15 w/ a tray $20. Not shipping and no fees. LOVE asking the men for prices or if I want to bargain (which I usually always do).

  21. I LOVE all the stuff you found! We have a Sophie and my 3 months old LOVES it! If I found another one at a garage sale I would snatch it up! Obviously the Bumbo Chair was an amazing deal! I found our for $5.00 at a garage sale and thought I found a good deal! lol Thanks so much for linking up!

  22. I picked up an exersaucer for $5 at a garage sale and have already sold the bar off of it for $20 and there's still more toys for me to sell from it. Thanks for the tip! Also, 2 weeks ago I got a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with Mickey figurine for $2. I'm excited to see what that goes for on ebay! My husband thinks I'm crazy, but oh well. I'm having fun with it!

  23. Yes, ALWAYS ask the husband :). I got some great deals that way a few weeks back. You made me think of a few things I have here at the house that I need to get listed. I have one of the Care Bears, hopefully he will be profitable on his own. I'll have to link up my finds when I get my post listed. Fun linky!!
