Compromised.

Last Friday afternoon proved to be very interesting as I spent an hour on the phone with eBay (via someone in India) because my account has been "compromised."  Apparently, there is a link between myself and user ID urallbiters (get it?) and so I am now on "restriction."  I feel like I am in high school and I am now grounded.  So even though Mr. urallbiters is no longer a registered user, and CLEARLY this is not an account that is to be taken seriously or I have any clue about, I am being punished.  Right now, my account is being "reviewed" and is "under investigation" and hopefully they will clear this up.

If you are wondering why I am not broadcasting my user id on ebay (right now) this is why!  Some of you may know it, and that's okay...I don't mind.  In fact I am thankful for your suggestions and mistake spottings.

I do have listings on right now.  I am experimenting with doing more fixed price listings as suggested by many...we'll see how this plays out in the end.  I only had time for 35 listings this time, so I will probably do a "week 2" in August because my shelves are FULL of stuff from the consignment sale (so thankful for that!).  Plus I have another consignment sale coming up in September, and yard sales will pick up as the season turns to fall (yay) so I need to get this stuff out of here!

This is what my 35 listings look like behind the scenes:

Some things in the picture didn't even make it to listings.  With family coming into town for the week I was super busy, and I didn't even get a chance to box things up beforehand.  I suggest you do that so you can use the calculated shipping method for determining your buyer's shipping cost, you can read more about that here and about how you need a scale here.  Since I have been doing this for so long, however, almost everything you see pictured I have sold before, so I already have a registered weight in my saved listings and don't really need to weigh them to get my listings up.

I photographed these 35 items in about 4 hours (2 naptimes).  It took me  approximately 4 hours to list them.  I'll let you know how long it takes me to box them up and ship them next week!  The auctions end on Thursday night...so far, so good!  And as for my fixed price listings, whatever doesn't sell this go round will be listed auction style during my second week of listings.

I am enjoying seeing your yard sale finds!  Don't forget to enter the giveaway if you haven't already!

  1. Sorry about your compromising position! I had something simialr happen once and it was a pain becuase they froze my PayPal account; I couldn't ship directly through PayPal and payments I was owed were put on hold - very frustrating. I hope they clear it up soon as that user name is soo obviously ridiculous. Grr...

PS - are you afraid that this has something to do with your blog? Jealousy truly is evil.

  2. I feel your pain!! Many years ago I had my ebay account hacked into and someone bought very expensive items using it. It was a HUGE PAIN to clear up. I mean HUGE. I stopped using ebay for 2 years after that and then had to still reopen a whole new account because it was never fully taken care of. I hope your situation goes more smoothly. :)

  3. Sorry to hear about your ebay situation. Seems this is happening more and more. I have sold on ebay for a very long time and I am super careful. I never ever click on anything from ebay or paypal that is sent to my email account. I log into either my ebay or paypal because the scammers make things look so legit. This happened to someone I know and the person listed a bunch of stuff under her id then billed people trying to get the money. Unfortunately you have to really be on top of things and it isnt' always easy. Good luck, I am new to your blog but have really enjoyed it. Hang in there. Rebecca @ brownzoo@yahoo.com

  6. Oh, I'm so sorry! What a pain!!
On a happier note, I am so thankful for your blog! It has been so fun to see what you're selling and also so educational! thanks to you, I have a list of toys to look for at my favorite consignment sale tomorrow! :) I'm always selling our kids clothes on ebay, but you have inspired me to venture into selling toys too!

  7. Thanks for all the sympathy! You've all brought me out of my sour mood about it. I was really freaked out until I saw the other account was so obviously bogus. I'm not sure how it was connected to me, but I am assuming once it is investigated I will be found not guilty!

I'm so glad the blog is helpful. I hope you all go through fall yard sale and consignment season and are able to get great stuff!

  8. What a mess! I love ebay but sometimes dealing with them can be such a hassle (I too have made midnight phone calls to India trying to get things straightened out!) I hope it's done and over for you soon!

  9. Oh man! Bummer summer! Normally I love ebay but I'm not going to lie, I'd rather have a cavity filled than have to deal with their customer service. And that was for a relatively small issue, nothing like having my account "compromised". I wish you god speed in getting things taken care of!

  10. This is terrible because for today only, the 26th, auctions are only a penny insertion fee.

  11. That stinks. I"m very don't like putting my username out there as well. If you figure it out, that's fine, but I never post it. But, this can happen to anyone. Good luck clearing it up.
