Sally Draper, I've got your number now: Vintage Children's Dress Patterns Yard Sale Find

Our last yard sale of the day had so much promise.  I expected to pull up and see a sea of kiddie plastic which would mean big bucks on ebay.  When we pulled up, however, I saw nothing but a few junky things out front.  I would have just driven away, but my friend gave me a "might as well" pep talk and into the garage we walked.

Wow.  I'm so glad we did.  It was a treasure trove of vintage sewing items.  I was instantly drawn to an old suitcase full of sewing patterns.  Knowing that vintage patterns can bring a nice profit on ebay, I was interested.  Very interested.  How much?  I asked.  Ten cents a piece.  Sold.  I bought just about all of them.

My favorite are the children's patterns.

These patterns make me want a little boy!  They are so cute!
I especially love the illustrations...the dear, sweet faces of the children.

They all remind me of Sally Draper.

And I love me some Sally Draper.

I am super duper inspired.  The patterns are already cut.  All I would have to do is buy fabric, cut, and sew.  I've never sewn from a pattern before, but I think I am going to try.  But which one should I choose? Will you help me decide by voting in my poll?  It's in the upper right hand corner of the blog.

Should I try "The Skimmy" from the 50's?  The 60's Pleated Dress?  Or the 70's Bell Sleeves?

  1. Well, you have lovely models for your work, my vote is for Skimmy.

  2. I had no idea vintage patterns were so ebayable. Good to know! =) Just wanted to warn you, since you said you've never sewn from a pattern is entirely different than sewing from an online tutorial or something like that. Much more frustrating (to me anyway). With that being said, I'm sure you'll do just fine & I'm super excited to see what you end up making! You are going to post a pic, right? ;)

P.S. I voted for the Skimmy.

  3. Can't wait for you to do it so you can teach/inspire me to!

  4. Do the one that says EASY on the pattern - it will be!
