Hello, Rainbow Cake! Thank You, Pyrex Mixing Bowl!

Today you'll find me over at The Pyrex Collective 2, sharing a story of how I made this rainbow cake in a vintage pyrex mixing bowl.

This cake was super easy to make!!  I used my favorite thrift store vintage pyrex bowls:

Any size will do.  I made two cakes, one in the smallest bowl as a "smash cake" for the baby and one in the biggest bowl for the rest of us to share.  All you need are two simple ingredients:  a white boxed cake mix, and some food coloring!

Prepare cake mix according to the box instructions.  Split your cake batter into 6 equal parts.  Use food coloring to turn each part a strong rainbow color.  Then, layer the equal parts into the bowl beginning with red, and ending with purple.  (I would put a couple of scoops in the smash cake bowl and then the rest of that color in the bigger bowl.)  When you're done, it should look like this:

Then, bake it at the suggested temp. on the box.  That's right, put that pyrex mixing bowl, vintage or not, right into the oven.  When it's finished, take it out, flip it onto your cake plate (I use a vintage milkglass cake plate so I can add a fun ribbon), and it will look like this:

Don't worry, when you slice into it, you'll think you've discovered a pot of gold!  Good luck!  And if you try it, let me know how it turns out!

I'm linking up with Debbie-Doo's, My Junk Drawer  and Beneath the Rowan Tree today, too!
